CONTRIBUTIONS TO OBC EDUCATION AND AWARENESS
Education occupies a central place in the National OBC Intellectual Forum's strategy for community empowerment. Alla Rama Krishna and the Forum leadership share the conviction that until OBC communities achieve educational parity with upper-caste groups, structural inequalities will persist regardless of political or economic interventions.
Advocating for Hostel Facilities and Scholarships
The Forum has consistently advocated for the expansion and proper management of government hostels for OBC students, particularly at the district and divisional levels. These residential facilities are critical for students from rural and semi-urban backgrounds who wish to pursue higher education but lack resources for urban accommodation. The Forum has monitored the utilization of scholarships and fee reimbursements allocated to OBC students and has taken up cases of non-disbursement with state authorities.
Promoting Higher Education and Professional Careers
Through its student mentorship programme, the Forum has guided hundreds of young people from OBC communities towards careers in civil services, judiciary, medicine, engineering, and academia. It organizes coaching awareness camps, connects aspirants with successful OBC professionals as mentors, and advocates for the strict implementation of reservation in premier institutions like IITs and IIMs — where OBC representation has historically lagged behind the mandated 27 per cent.
Awareness of Constitutional Rights
A recurring finding across the Forum's grassroots work is the widespread ignorance within OBC communities of their own constitutional rights and the welfare schemes available to them. The Forum has responded by producing simple, accessible literature in Telugu explaining the reservation system, the process for obtaining OBC/BC certificates, the creamy layer provisions, and the avenues available for grievance redress. Community meetings in villages and urban neighborhoods have been used to disseminate this information.
Combating Misinformation
The Forum has also played an important role in countering misinformation about OBC reservation — including narratives that paint reservations as anti-merit or divisive. Through public discourse, media engagement, and academic publications, Forum members have articulated evidence-based defenses of affirmative action, drawing on data showing persistently low OBC representation in senior government positions, academia, and the private sector despite decades of reservation policy.
