KEY ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMMES
The National OBC Intellectual Forum has, since its inception, undertaken a wide range of activities aimed at the intellectual, social, and political empowerment of OBC communities. These activities reflect the Forum's multi-dimensional approach to social transformation.
Seminars and Conferences
The Forum regularly organizes seminars, symposia, and national conferences on issues of direct relevance to backward class communities. Topics have included OBC enumeration in the census, sub-categorization within the OBC quota, political representation of OBCs, land rights, access to higher education, economic empowerment, and the status of OBC women. These events bring together scholars, activists, politicians, legal experts, and community members for substantive dialogue.
Publications and Research Reports
Through its Research and Documentation Cell, the Forum produces and disseminates research reports, position papers, and analytical briefs on OBC-related issues. These publications serve both to inform public debate and to provide credible data for use in representations to government bodies and courts. The Forum has also produced materials in Telugu and other regional languages to ensure accessibility for community members who may not be comfortable with English.
Awareness Campaigns
Large-scale awareness campaigns are a cornerstone of the Forum's work. These campaigns, conducted through rallies, padayatras (foot marches), public meetings, street plays, and digital media outreach, educate OBC communities about their constitutional rights, existing welfare schemes, reservation provisions, and avenues for redress when rights are denied. The Forum has been particularly active in rural areas of Telangana, where awareness of government schemes remains limited.
Legal Support and Representation
The Forum's Legal Cell provides support to individuals and communities facing denial of OBC certificates, exclusion from reservation benefits, or other forms of legal discrimination. The Forum has also been involved in filing public interest litigations (PILs) and submissions to the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) on issues of broader concern to OBC communities across India.
Student Mentorship and Scholarships
Recognizing that education is the most powerful tool for social mobility, the Forum runs mentorship programmes for OBC students preparing for competitive examinations — civil services, judicial services, and entrance tests for professional courses. The Forum advocates before government bodies for the strict implementation of scholarships, fee reimbursements, and hostel facilities available to OBC students.
